Nashville 2 - Health

Today (Thursday) we traveled back to Springfield and worked with Donny from TNKids to deliver food backpacks to the remaining schools in the county. We then made and delivered snack packs for all the schools; they are used to provide kids that attend tutoring and after school activities with a snack. All of the people working in the schools were very welcoming, and it is evident that the work that TNKids is doing is making a difference for underprivileged kids in the community.

After delivery of the packs we returned to the warehouse to clean up the facility and assemble snack packs for the coming week.  Our help today and yesterday gave the normal TNKids volunteers an entire week off!  At our last location Donny showed us their one and only non-school location which is in the most dangerous part of Springfield. The kids in this area grow up surrounded with drugs, slander, and a lack of support.  TNKids provides these children with a safe place to go in the community that can support them by providing food and a spiritual setting.

After volunteering, our group took a trip to the Parthenon, a replica of the original Greek monument. A tour guide showed us around the museum and told us about the history and mythology behind the sculptures and paintings. Did you know Nashville is called "Athens of the South"? We learned today that it is because of the large amount of universities.  So now we can say we have also been to the Parthenon in Athens!

For dinner, we went to a restaurant in Nashville called Fido. We met up with Sean from Good Food for Good People and his wife, Carol. The food was great and the conversations were even better. It was so nice of them to join us!

We ended the night with a stroll down Broadway, where we listened to some music, and even saw a street musical performance. That was definitely the way to conclude our Nashville experience!

Tomorrow is our last day of service. It has been an awesome week! Sharing so many great, eye-opening experiences together has been an unparalleled adventure that will not be soon forgotten.

            Love from Nashville,

                        Emily, Jackson, and Carson
