Fort Bowie - Environment

Today was our third day of hiking to collect wildlife cameras at Chiricahua National Monument in southeastern Arizona. Despite blisters and cactus cuts galore, we were excited to spend another day contributing to this ongoing conservation project. More staff joined us today, so we were able to split into three groups of varying difficulty (we all opted for the two easier hikes). The three groups covered the majority of the southeastern part of the park and collected 10 more cameras. We were graced with sunshine and breezes all day, which we were all thankful for. After our hikes, we went through the pictures taken by the cameras and were excited to see bears, coyotes, deer, foxes chewing on camera cords, etc. For dinner tonight, we made chili and invited our housing neighbors at Ft. Bowie who work at both Ft. Bowie and Chiricahua over. They told us all about various opportunities for college students at national parks throughout the nation and other ideas to bring what we’re learning here back to Missouri. We ended the night with a screening of classic American film “Hot Rod” and many a laughs were had. More camera collection tomorrow!
