Corpus Christi - Habitat for Humanity

Workers taking a break to imitate some art

With the rest of the day ahead of us and stomachs full of PB&Js we headed toward the USS Lexington, a WWII aircraft carrier turned into a museum. We toured the ship, watched a film about the air force, and walked around on top of a very windy deck. We got to see what it was like for a passenger living aboard the ship during WWII. We ended the day with a great homemade chicken Alfredo dish prepared by two of our group members.

As we sat down to reflect on a long day everyone could agree that the harsh weather was the worse part and working on the house and the USS Lexington was the best part of the day. It was amazing to see how much work 10 people could get done in 3 hours. Tomorrow we are looking forward to spending our free day in San Antonio.

Day 1: MABurritos in Corpus Christi, Texas

We arrived at the house for habitat for humanity in Corpus Christi at 7:30 am cold and wet. Our site leader informed us that it was the coldest Corpus Christi ever got at 40 degrees. When we arrived the house has just been painted and the floor was the next step. The floor began dirty and cluttered with tools and equipment. So we got started clearing, sweeping, scraping, and mopping the floors. With the floors now cleaned the tiles can now be placed. With the tiles not being shipped until Tuesday, we were finished and off home for a nap at 11 am.
