Billings, MT - Homelessness and Poverty (Post 6)

Dearest family, friends, and fans,

Today was our last day with the children at Head Start. We each volunteered for the morning and afternoon session, but with our break in between the two, we had the chance to ride the bus with the children. This helped us to get more perspective on where they live and the background to their stories. We also volunteered tonight at the Yellowstone Art Museum where the Head Start children had artwork on display and their parents got to come see it. It was so wonderful to see the families so proud of their children and happy to be there. We left the Art Museum after the event was over to have dinner at the home of our host at Harvest Church. It was very relaxed and casual and fun to get to know her and her family better.

We ended this evening with reflection, which was a sad time for us, as we recognize that this is it. ASBillings has one more morning of service before we head off to our half way housing and go back to Columbia, where we share Mizzou, but not a room where we have lined up sleeping bags and talk until the wee hours of the morning. We all have found a group that understands us more than we understood ourselves before we ventured here and that group will forever be the twelve ASBillings participants.

Love,

ASBillings
