Baltimore, MD - Children (Post 2)

After catching some much needed sleep, the journey began. Sunday, March 24th, at 7:45 a.m the group decided to explore The District of Columbia (D.C). The day began with a ride on the Metro (train), from Silver Springs. After the train ride our first stop was the White House. Unfamiliar with the area, we ended up walking multiple laps around the White House. A phone call was placed, and we were greeted by our own personal tour guide, who has been a resident of the area for over 15 years. After eating a fulfilling meal, our energy was restored to help complete our 7 mile journey. Along that journey, to name a few, we visited the Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King Memorial and Smithsonian Museum. The day was merely over, we ended our adventure at the museum and proceeded to the train station. It was 6 p.m, and we all were starving, a trip to Walmart was made in order to prepare dinner. Dinner was prepared and everyone was pleased; the night ended at approximately 10:30 pm.

Then there was seven, four ASBers departed for the night to stay at a local hotel to sleep for the night. The morning arrived quickly, site leader Carl arrived at the housing location at 6:30 am to awake the seven ASBers for the trip to Baltimore. We arrived in Baltimore at 8:30 a.m. We came straight to the housing and moved our stuff in. When it was 10am, we headed to the Johns Hopkins Children's House. The driving was a bit different, although we got there in one piece. We got a tour of the house and we were shown a video of the organization and its mission. The house is for families that live far away from the hospital but have a child getting treatment at the Hopkins hospital. Soon after, groups of three were assigned a project. One group was to paint a laundry room, others had to paint the bedrooms. Another group was to reorganize a pantry. After a long day of work, we were treated to pizza with the residents. It was extremely interesting experiencing how they live and seeing some of the interactions with the staff. They were so kind and generous to each other. We came back to our housing site (while some went grocery shopping at Walmart). We played games and told each other stories. We reflected and shared some striking moments we experienced. It's really nice having a project to get done and work as a team. We're all looking forward to more exciting experiences. #ServenB'More
