Hey guys! For the final time this week, we get to share our group's experience down south. Today was a little different from the days past – we had the opportunity to spend a 'free day' in Charleston, S.C. (about 2 hours outside of Columbia, S.C.).
The journey began with the group splitting into the Mom and Pop mobiles. The folks in Pop enjoyed a sing-along of Grease while the folks in Mom enjoyed a pretty sweet play list created by our own Bailee. Once we arrived in Charleston, we headed to the #1 suggested seafood restaurant by the water. With Hyman's vast menu and extraordinary southern hospitality, our lunch experience was more than we could have hoped for!
Post lunch, Bobby's friend from home, Connor, gave us a walking tour of the city. We ventured to Rainbow Row, College of Charleston campus, and we even got to see the beach! Unfortunately, Mother Nature got in the way of our afternoon plans of spending time on the beach, so we headed back in the early evening. However, by the time we returned from the 2-hour journey back, the rain had ceased and we got to enjoy the rest of the evening playing catch outside.
It became apparent today that this group is more than just 12 individuals – we are family. Whether it's Bakke and Maddie bickering like brother and sister or Alex and Emma cuddling on the air mattresses, it's become pretty obvious that we all have embraced the principle of "communicating love".
Later this evening when we sat down for reflection, we decided to share three highlights of the day each. As we went around the circle all three times, no one hesitated to share a new experience that was different from everyone else; that's 36 favorite things in one day! Also during reflection, we spent time discussing the week as a whole and these are some major points we hit on:
1) MIZZOU rocks!
2) We have been so blessed to pay it forward.
3) This organization (AASB) is full of so many great and unique individuals who constantly spur growth in Mizzou at home while also recognizing the importance of tradition.
4) We wouldn't change our MAB experience for anything!
Although the twelve of us may have all taken something different away from our week spent with Habitat for Humanity, there is absolutely no debate that this has been such an incredible experience. We are so thankful for all the support we've had and the opportunity we were given. While we're sad to say goodbye to Columbia, S.C. tomorrow, we have many great memories and lessons learned to bring home to Columbia, MO.
With much (A)ASB love,
Maddie and Jessica
