Today was our first day or service, and it went great! Due to the fact that we are only helping in our school for two days, most of us were worried about not being able to have a huge difference. It's safe to say that's wasn't the case! Most of today we worked on cleaning out and organizing two of the main storage closets at KIPP. We were able to accomplish these tasks within a matter of hours, and it's something that would've taken a couple teachers multiple days. Knowing that we were able to free up the teacher's time so that they could continue to teach in their classrooms was so gratifying. A handful of teachers went out of their way to come tell us how much they appreciated our help, and that made sorting through dusty boxes worth every minute.
Throughout the staff members' busy day, they took time to take us on a tour of their school which was truly inspiring. This gave us an opportunity to really understand what the school bases their goals and principles off of. Learning about the school gave us more motivation and drive to make our time at KIPP the best it could possibly be.
