Nonetheless, we were all on time, take note of this because I've never been on time in my entire life
Because of some weather setbacks, we were unable to go to clean up the forest fire that we had originally planned to do today, so we spent the day helping our favorite person in the whole world, Maelly. We worked all afternoon sorting, counting, and organizing two storage units full of equipment and tools used by the Larimer County Conservation Corps. We had beautiful weather and got to set up a lot of tents, so even though it was a lot of work, not one of us complained. Besides, we were with Maelly, so even shoveling fish poop (see yesterday's post) is fun.
After we were done working hard, we got to go rock climbing! It would sound cooler to say that we went climbing in the mountains, but we may have come back with a few less eagles, so we went to a really cool gym. All of were really good climbers, blisters and all. It was a blast and again, we had Maelly there, making it all totally awesome. We have the best contact ever here in Fort Collins, has that been mentioned yet?
After all of the work (and play), we showered because we all smelled real good. Zach made friends with a cute little boy.
We made amazing pizzas for dinner and then got into our sleeping bags and watched a movie. One of the less eventful evenings here so far. Last night we got to share feelings and stuff.
Apparently, that one time my boot was unzipped was not embarrassing as I thought... Erin, you win for most embarrassing moment ever (Tanner and Dylan tied for second).
I can't believe it's already Wednesday. We are having so much fun and working so hard (kind of). It seems like our group has been friends for years. I don't want this to end! I love each and every one of my group members. We seem more like a family than a group of college students now. I will certainly remember these warm and fuzzy feelings long after this trip is over.
Even the drive here that seemed like it was never going to end was a blast. I used a bathroom at a Subway that was outside and required a key, big step for this girl, but I saw the two cutest puppies in the world at a gas station in New Mexico. I thought that was best moment of my life until we hiked in the mountains on Monday. It was breathtaking, beautiful, and perfect, even for this small little Bambi.
Also, no one got food poisoning from the dinner I made on Monday, so that's also a highpoint of the trip.
But obviously, the most important part of the trip is that I have only driven the red van.
Let's all have a moment of silence and think about how at 6:22 this morning, a piece of Tanner's heart shattered into a million pieces. His beloved water bottle broke. But don't worry too much about Tanner, his grieving period was short. Super hero Maelly brought him a new water bottle this afternoon.
Tomorrow we will actually be working hard out in the mountains, but I don't think anyone minds because we are so excited to give all we can to this beautiful place. Despite all of the joking about Big Dizzle Dylan being a professional dishwasher, Sam snoring, Erin listening to 22 on loop for the rest of eternity, Zach being crazy, and Karin being Narcoleptic (all jokes aside), I don't think any of us would trade places to be on a warm beach somewhere.
Plus, the beach doesn't have a Maelly.
P.S. Julia makes amazing pancakes, Lauren is just the sweetest, Savannah has no problem speaking her mind, Anna is a great sleeping neighbor, Zach should not be allowed in the front seat until he learns more about basketball and/or gets over his need to touch a rock on the side of the mountain while in a moving vehicle (this goes for Tanner as well), and Katie is a tent pitching rockstar.
Tanner, I am going to miss having your feet in my face every night after this trip is all over.
Eagles fly together (in matching Maelly shirts). Sosa for life. Red van always.
