The morning couldn't have started any better than getting a mornin' shower of ice cold sweet tea at Micky D's. Thanks Jazmin! Poor Audra and Alyssa... It all happened so fast. We were discussing our daily schedule, and next thing you know their pants were completely soaked (glad it wasn't coffee!).
Once again, we were split up today. Half of us stayed at Pasos and the other volunteered at two clinics, calculating BMI from patients' heights and weights, taking blood pressure, among other things. At Pasos, we finished the laminations, fixed the organization's website and created a breastfeeding brochure as well as a brochure with medical information.
After lunch, we took a break and walked towards the Greek houses at the University of South Carolina. There, we basically forced Landon to take a picture outside of Pi Kapp and a really nice guy let us into the house. We awkwardly walked inside and interrupted a couple of fraternity guys eating lunch. The inside of their fraternity looked extremely nice! Even nicer than some of the sorority houses back at Mizzou. Jazmin seemed very interested in a guy from a composite on the wall.
After saying our farewells to Carolina from Five Points Pediatrics our adventure to the Park began. The car ride there consisted of Jazzy's jammin' hip hop tunes and traffic (WHO KNEW THERE WAS ALL THIS TRAFFIC IN COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA?!) Once we arrived at the park, Jazmin said, "I'm blowwwn! Who the heck pays for parking at the park?!" Good point, boo. Good point.
But the real action happened when the twelve of us tried to barbeque. After we got there, we realized that we had forgotten to bring a spatula so Maddie and Audra attempted to flip the burgers using sticks. After the longest trip to three different grocery stores, we had the remaining utensils and happily returned to the park.
We all wish we could write down everything Jazmin says. Some of our favorite quotes during the volleyball game were: "Just call it and be there. Follow the principles," "It's okay, you were there," "It's always our point mentally," and "That's cute." We've begun to adapt some of these phrases into our vocabulary.
Jazmin also educated us about what a "boo" means and we made fun of a bunch of guys taking selfies on Instagram.
We have an important update for passengers of the world-renowned Jazzy Jetz Airlines. A horrible flood ruined the airport, but thankfully the airplane has remained operable. In other words, Audra spilled water all over Jazmin's paper airplane. A tragedy, indeed. The only silver lining is that this tragedy was casualty-free. Also, we've been informed Jazzy Jetz Airlines has insurance. So there's that.
Our dear Evan was not as lucky as Jazmin's paper airplanes. While cutting a tomato for his veggie sandwich, Evan stabbed his own hand with a small knife. Knife 1, Evan 0. He bled for a couple of hours, but it was nothing a first aid kit couldn't fix. Revenge was his a few hours later, when he grilled that same tomato at the park and ate it blissfully. Evan 1, tomato 0.
On the way back from the park, our drivers decided to race back home (within the bounds of the Law, of course). The funny thing about races is that you must be side-by-side to see who is fastest. With this, one of the cars took the wrong way home and ended up losing the race. Once the second car arrived, Landon made sure to ask them, "what took you so long?" It was so scandalous.
A movie sesh on the big screen ended a perfect day. It's hard to believe we were strangers just a little while ago. ASB has a way of bonding people like that.
