On Friday night, our site leaders Michael and Theresa learned that there would be a huge snow storm that would be impacting our travel route in Kansas. Our trip lived up to the ASB principle of being gumby and we adjusted our travel plans. Saturday we planned to meet at 5AM. After a quick nutritious McDonald's breakfast, we began our journey. Our new path encompassed over 1,100 miles and took us through southwest Missouri and then Oklahoma. Each participant made a CD with music and everyone had fun guessing who made which CD and listening to good music. Within Oklahoma, we made a stop at the Will Rogers statue and saw the country's biggest McDonald's. We're not obsessed with McDonald's although we certainly won't need beach bodies in Colorado! We stopped for gas and lunch in Tulsa and continued on our path. We saw a lot of cows and windmills along the way. A lot of wind and cold temperatures accompanied our journey so the southwest isn't always warm! A snow storm caused us to stop in Amarillo, Texas for the night. We experienced authentic Texas BBQ at Rudy's BBQ which was highly recommended by one of the participants, Erica, and spent the night at the wonderful Comfort Suites. This morning we left Texas at 9AM and went through snow in New Mexico. We stopped in Clayton, New Mexico and took some pictures with dinosaur statutes. We drove through the rest of northeast New Mexico and then finally saw what we were looking for-the sign saying Welcome to Colorful Colorado! We took a picture by the sign and by mountains and then ate some incredible Mexican food. The portion sizes were huge, especially Michael and Bobby who had burritos. From there, we drove to Aurora and got to Calvary Baptist Church. Our hosts are so nice and accommodating. We helped them with a community service project through painting plant pots for their fundraiser for a mission trip to Alaska. After helping them, we went to Walmart and got our groceries for the week. Through the past two days we have gained a wider perspective about the southwest states and we are really looking forward to volunteering tomorrow at Colorado's Children Hospital!

Our group at the dinosaur statue in Clayton, New Mexico. Dinosaurs are believed to have roamed in the Clayton, New Mexico area millions of years ago.

We made it to Colorado!
