Memphis--Children and Health

Day Two:

This was our first day volunteering in the hospital, and it was fantastic! We got to hang out with some awesome little kids and had a very enjoyable time. Here's a little insight into the various activities we did all day:

Gift Shop: (Carl and Jessica) We priced a bunch of toiletries with an awesome sticker gun. We also made a pretty cool Easter display with lots of cute bunnies and chocolate. There was this awesome pre-med guy named Larry that we got to chat with.

Art Cart: (Jacqueline and Julie) We went around room to room to give them a new piece of art to hang up. This was a way to personalize the room for the patients and give them a change of scenery. We also got the chance to play with this little girl. She was precious.

Unit Buddies: This was an awesome job where we got to just hang out with little kids at their bedside. Skylar was in the Cardiovascular ICU for the first couple hours where he held an adorable 3-week-old baby. Jesse got to hang out with the little girl the art cart ladies hung out with. She was the sweetest little girl ever. She would come up and hug your leg and put her head in your lap. Andrea and Chi played some games with the children. They also did some arts and crafts. Molly had the opportunity to hang out with a teenage girl who liked to be called "Doodlez." They chatted about typical teenage girl stuff and colored some pictures. Riley got to hang out with this precious 5-month-old while her mother was running errands.

Activity Cart: (Sarah and Kelsey) We brought various activities to the patients' rooms and waiting rooms. We made coffee filter roses, colored masks, made some hats, and had an overall great time.

We can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!
