Trip: Charleston- Kids (Day 2)

Day two of our trip we began our day with helping the St. Jame Presbyterian Church keep their campus clean by picking up trash and cleaning off graves. The members of the church were so thankful for the work we did and made sure to tell us how thankful they were. Being able to give back to the place that gave us a home for a week was really rewarding for all of us. While cleaning the church campus which included a cemetery we were able to look back at history through the gravestones which dated back to the mid 1700's. We were able to bond and sing together while attempting to find a public park (which failed). We decided that the beach was the next best option. The ocean was freezing, we know this because half us thought it was a good idea to jump in the cold water and try to swim to Europe. Unfortunately, we had to turn around because of a rain storm otherwise we would have made it. After the attempt to swim to Europe we bonded through basketball, running, and an intense work out with our participant and "personal trainer" (no joke, she is certified) Sam who kicked our butts.

She was a great motivator not letting us skip any part of the workout, although some of us REALLY wanted to. We ended our day through walking around downtown Charleston and through the campus of University of Charleston. Most of us are going to have a though time getting back in the vans and driving 15 hours to Columbia, MO when we are in breath-taking Charleston (especially Ziena!). We saw what we thought was Fort Sumter National Park, but in reality it was just Embassy Suits. We failed so much today, but we succeed in reflecting how we can bring working with the Miracle League and helping St. James Presbyterian back to Columbia. Tomorrow we start working with Adaptive Gardening and WINGS which we are really excited about! This week so far has been unforgettable and we are enjoying every second of it!

Peace,
ASB- Charleston
