Another day at ARNO J
The dog walking and cage clean went soo much faster today. Not having to ask Kendra a million questions made things much easier, even though I know she didn't mind the questions. Some of the rest of the girls and myself organized part of the facility today trying to make more room. I know it was a task that would probably be really hard to get done without a lot of volunteers to help, so I'm really happy that we were able to get as much done as we did. One of the puppies in the office had adoption paper filled out for it today, as well as an owner of one of the isolation dogs came and reclaimed the pup! The isolation dog actually had fleas as well, so I am glad he got to go home and get some medical care, instead of having to be itchy all day long (poor thing). The end of the day at ARNO was the best because we got a "free period" to take any dog we wanted out for either another walk for some social time. I took one of the feral dogs, Zeus, out for a run and it was so nice. I know some of the dogs, especially the feral dogs, would be a lot happier if they could get that kind of attention all the time.
After ARNO we took a quick trip down to the Lower Ninth Ward. Even though I was the navigator, it was pretty obvious when we had arrived. It was extremely sad to see that after seven years there was still really obvious damage to the area's homes. We saw a couple houses with the "x-codes" on them indicating if anyone has died, the date the house was checked, and if there was anything making the house uninhabitable. Seeing big black "x's" painted on one fo the houses gave me the chills, just to think that someone may have been trapped in their own home as a prisoner, with water rising around them.
We got back to the house and had a taco night and them checked out the cemetery near by the house. It was kind of nice to have a relaxing night after such a long day at the shelter J
