Day 2 and 3
Mizzou is lovin' NashVegas! We're making ourselves right at home in the country music capitol. We had a fantastic free day walking around downtown and listening to all the live music. We also got a tour of our main volunteer site, Kindred Spirits, and even saw a lesson in action! It was a really inspirational experience to see how much joy a child gets out of taking care of and riding a horse! We are learning a lot about the therapeutic effects between humans and animals.
On Monday (today) we got a real taste of what it's like to live on a ranch! We had plenty to do and got plenty of sun. We got to know all the horses and the rest of the Kindred Spirits menagerie! We cleaned saddles, scooped pooped, washed buckets, cleaned brushes, organized the office, wrangled horses, and watched some people gather a swarm of bees into a box. And Kenny saved some of the girls from spiders. We were never without something to do! We also learned about the mating practices of various animals...
Tonight, we got to go to the Olympic qualifying soccer match between the USA and El Salvador. Unfortunately the US will not be playing soccer at the Olympics :( But, it was an interesting cultural experience being surrounded by both American and Salvadorian fans who are very passionate about their country and their soccer.
We have another busy day ahead of us at Kindred Spirits tomorrow and we'll be making a dinner for Gilda's Club in the evening!
Stay tuned, y'all!
