Our Mizzou ASB trip is headed to Minnesota to help women and children in poverty. During the week here, we will volunteer for Breaking Free, Mary's Place and Feed My Starving Children, while also exploring the areas of St. Paul and Minneapolis. The group is made of up nine stellar Mizzou students who applied and were selected to spend their spring break volunteering. This week, expect posts from Adrianna, Amy, Sarah, Mackenzie, Julie, Michelle, Carly, Brett and Lisa about our experiences, trials and activities throughout this week.
This morning at 8 a.m. our Alternative Spring Break group gathered with a box of donuts and hit the road for the Twin Cities!
Most of our journey allowed us to get better acquainted with one another and called for a lot of singing to Journey, Backstreet Boys, Kelly Clarkson and Disney melodies. Our group made a quick stop in Des Moines for an Arby's lunch and then continued on our way to Minnesota.
After a 10-hour trip we made it Dunrovin Retreat Center, where we will be staying for the rest of the week. We quickly settled in and headed into the nearest town, Stillwater, for dinner. We ate at a quant, pirate-themed restaurant called Smalley's Caribbean Barbeque and Pirate Bar. The food was good and the mac 'n cheese was awesome!
As this is being written we are waiting on the other part of the group to return from a Wal-Mart grocery run. Look forward to hearing about our adventures tomorrow as we take on the famous Mall of America!
